Translating Visual Tradition
As a medium used globally for over 5000 years, the henna plant and the art it inspires continues to evolve. From ancient application with strings and sticks, to the 21st-century use of the syringe and glitter embellishments; how has the henna design evolved over time? Where did it begin? And what does “modern henna culture” even mean?
In this class we will discuss the source of several “traditional” henna designs, defining the concept of what qualifies as “traditional”.
